In the past, when I was a wee one who had grown up with the Greek myths as told by Edith Hamilton, I didn't much care for Disney's Hercules. But then I had a moment of clarity--there are already so many versions of the myths that it doesn't matter. And they're myths; you can do whatever you want with them. Since that time of mellowing, I have grown to adore Hercules. Honestly I would be so thrilled if Disney did some more Greek myths--even more thrilled if they did it in the same sort of style. Hercules has killer style man. Also also, Hercules has one of my favorite climaxes in Disney history, "cutting the thread" leaves me with bated breath every time.
